Hot water keeps running in shower

My son had a shower after me this morning and when he turned the taps off, the hot water just kept running. I've tried turning the water off at the mains which didn't help. Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched but there were too many results to go through.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It whould help to know something about the faucet, is it a two handle faucet, shat brand is the faucet, did you ever get the water shut off, if not there should be a cutoff above the water heater that will turn off the water to the water heater.....I am sure you will have to take the faucet apart.

It's OK, my Dad came round and fixed it. It was just the valve thingy , I just got confused because I couldn't get the water to turn off from the mains, then Dad showed me the tap on the hot water system. Once we turned that off it was easy enough to pull the tap off and replace the valve.

Thanks for your help though, you must have replied while Dad was here showing me where that cutoff to the hot water system was
