Help ... Had this shower problem for a while now.... maintenance replaced the "temp sensors" As I've been told.

The problem was / still is: The temperaure of the shower water does not stay constant . I set it at a comfortable hot setting after a few minutes or so the temp drops considerably colder..... then.... after a few minutes the temp of the water returns to the hot setting.
This " fluctuation" continues for the entire length of the shower.

Hot water supply is NOT an issue... Plenty of it available.

The Temptrol valve is at least 30 years old.

HELP !!!!!

Thanks John Wallace

Does your unit have its own water heater? Pass this on to your maintainence guys, there are no sensors. How to rebuild a symmons shower valve | eHow.com

Very strange. As Bob said there are no temperature sensors. The valve is not a temperature controlled valve. It is a pressure balancing valve. It controls temperature by keeping the hot and cold water pressures balanced. As different people use more or less water, the water pressure changes. Try taking a shower at 3 AM and you probably won't have a problem.

Maintenance personnel sometimes know what they are doing. Sometimes they don't. If they said they replaced the temperature sensors, that makes me suspicious. Here is a break down of the valve and a trouble shooting guide. The spindle (TA-10) probably should be replaced. Maybe maintenance replaced it, maybe not. You can't tell from what you were told. If they replace it, I would think they would have said "We replaced the spindle", not "We replace the temperature sensors."

Not a really difficult problem to solve.

Those are two really good replies. Seemed to hit the nail on the head. Shame when you have to tell your maintanence people how to fix a problem. Tried to give HK a "helpful", but it wouldn't let me. Oh well.

All the above is "spot on"! Confirm that the spindle (TA-10) was replaced....if it wasn't push to have them replace the spindle.

The only other sources I can think of might be a single handle bathroom faucet (or kitchen faucet)...could be that the mixer cartridge has gone bad here allowing crossflow. Could also be a washing machine solonoid valve...may have to start looking at this stuff.

Keep us posted...

Hello. I am trouble shooting a Delta single handle shower problem. The shower has a diminished flow and over the past 6 months or so has become so hot that it appears that the cold water flow has been restricted or cut off. I think my solution is to replace the cartridge (I think Delta RP19805)...
