Grundfos recirc pump - ticking noise and pump warm to the touch - Normal?
We have an approx 8 y/old Grundfos recirc pump on our hot water line and today I notice it is making a ticking noise (first time I've noticed this) and it is "quite" warm to the touch--I've never touched it before so I'm not sure if this is always the case. Should I be worried? I don't recall that it made a ticking sound previously and I'm about to go out of town overnight... any help is apreciated.

    Hi Zoedog...

As long as the delivery of hot water is as it has always been then you are fine. Pumps run and get warm/hot, but the pump should shut down when the thermostat is satisfied. The ticking sound isn't exactly "normal", but not unreasonable either.

If hot water delivery takes longer at the farthest faucet, for example, then you may have a bad pump but it certainly poses no danger as worst case it just won't circulate water anymore... ;) In this case, just get it replaced when you get home this weekend.

    Good luck!
