Hi Dan,
14 X 14"is fine, as is 9 3/4" deep. you can always fill in or dig some out if necessary. Cementing the floor of the tub dap out isn't necessary. We have never had a complaint about seepage but then we don't rough too many houses in a swamp where the water table's higher then the rough in. Besides you might wish to position the trap during installation or perhaps change out the tub later. good luck, Tom
