I have a Price Pfister three handle tub/shower faucet with two problems. One is just annoying, the other I must fix.
When I turn the diverter to shower, hot water drips into the wall from somewhere in the center of the faucet assembly or above. I can see up into the wall from the basement but I can't tell exactly where it's coming from. Hot and cold to the tub works fine as does cold water only to the shower. Only hot water to the shower leaks. This started about a week ago. I use this part of the basement often and am sure there was no leak before.
Today I replaced the plastic gasket where the diverter threads into the body of the faucet, the plastic washer the valve stem sits into when the shower is on, the washer on the end of the stem and the valve seat (none of it was in great shape so I just replaced it all). The problem is just as before. The wood in the wall around the diverter is wet so I tried tape on the threads when I put the diverter back in - no help.
The other problem is that water comes out the spout when cold water is going to the shower head but not hot water. With hot water I can turn the diverter knob a little harder and it stops but with cold there's a considerable flow no matter what I do.
Yes, it is that type of faucet though not exactly like the one pictured.
The second problem I described yesterday is a non-issue under normal use (I don't take cold showers). It seems that when the plastic washer warms up a little bit it works better. The old part actually had a bevel around the hole that the valve sits into. The new part lacks that bevel.
I would suggest to shut the water to the house,remove all 3 stems and remove the seats they are inside the faucet use the wrench, also remove the washers and take them to a plumbing supply buy new ones and installed you will be OK, see the picture below I have high lighted with red for you, Thanks.
I had already replaced these parts on the diverter so I went ahead and did the hot and cold sides too. It appears to have solved the problem though I don't understand why. I've replace the hot side washer and ground the seat (it did need to be replaced) to stop water coming out the spout when the valve was turned off. I don't get how these parts could cause a leak into the wall. Obviously I have some things to learn.
There is still some dripping but it appears to be coming from behind the spout. I suspect I disturbed and old seal as I was twisting and turning the rest of the faucet. I'll pull that apart and replace it and if that doesn't solve the problem, I'll be back.
I also have a leaking diverter faucet. Delta system, the one with the knob to turn water on/off. The actual diverter is on the faucet to control shower or faucet. After turning off the water I get the drips from the shower head then it will stop ( I know its emptying from there) but the faucet still drips.
