Commode bubbling

Sounds like your main sewer line is stopping up to me

To plumberman:
Thing is, lavatory drains fine if water just runs, commode flushes just fine, no backup, no bubbling . . . Lavatory drain goes into commode drain in half bath . . . Thanks for listening

The fact that you can run the water means nothing believe it or not....the problem comes when the water is all let loose at once and you get the bubbles....I could be wrong but it really does sound like a clogged main....

NP...I'm glad to help if I can...if your vent was stopped up it would not drain at all..and it would not cause the WC to bubble...Try snaking the line both ways and see if that works...not being able to see it myself hinders my answers....but then again I have been wrong before...ask all the questions you want just try not to repost so much...good luck

If this is the only fixture that's affected it's doubtful that it's the main that's clogged. Are you quite sure that it's a "bubble" (do you see bubbles in the toilet?) or could it be a "gurgle" that you hear? Let bme explain. When your fixtures begain to talk back to you they do it in two ways. They "gurgle" atcha or they "bubble" atcha. The "gurgle" is caused by vacuum caused by a blocked vent. The "bubble" is caused by back pressure due to a partial blockage What happens is that when you flush or drain the discharge runs down the drain line and hits the partial blockage and bounces back sending a bubble of air ahead of it. A partial blockage will also cause a backup sending soap or crud into a fixture until it can drain away. Let us know exactly what you have and we will try to make it go away. Regards, tom

Thanks for the reply . . . I think it's a gurgle, not sure . . . Lav and commode in half bath are drained together into septic . . . Vent pipe is behind the lav . . . . Can run all the water I want, flush all I want, but when fill lav and then pull plug, that is when commode gurgles or bubbles . . . Again, thanks .

A gurgle indicates a blocked vent. The solution is to snake from the lavatory roof vent. Put out enough cable and about 15 feet more. Good luck, Tom

You may use the fixtures without any problem. While shoving a hose down a vent may not be effective as a snake it will sometimes clear a blocked vent. It's worth a try. Good luck, Tom
