Im in the Caribbean and I have no way of getting a 1500w element till a couple of weeks. Could I use the 220 element in a 110 water heater?

Plumber's wisdom: I don't think so. You would have to upgrade electrical wiring. You can go with 110 Volt element with higher wattage provided you have proper wire gauge going to the heater...

You can. Get the highest wattage 240 element that you can.

Well I was looking for a quick solution. As soon as I get back to the usa I'm going to get the 1500watt element and take the 240 4500watt out.

I did the math. You'll end up with a 768 W 120 V element. Used 120 V and 240 V, so about half.
