Plumber's wisdom: I don't think so. You would have to upgrade electrical wiring. You can go with 110 Volt element with higher wattage provided you have proper wire gauge going to the heater...
However, I think you should post this question in Electrical Forum.
You can. Get the highest wattage 240 element that you can.
You may be able to take a quick shower.
Well I was looking for a quick solution. As soon as I get back to the usa I'm going to get the 1500watt element and take the 240 4500watt out.
I did the math. You'll end up with a 768 W 120 V element. Used 120 V and 240 V, so about half.
