Broken Concrete trap "Drainage Pipe"
I recently bought a house with a unfinished basement bath. I have since decided to finish the bathroom but have ran into a bit of a problem. The previous owners set all of the drains up and I have since found a large hole in the trap of a secondary drain that drains into the main. To explain it better the toilet drain was directly tapped into the main and serves as no problem as water flows easily down the drain and the upstaris drains do not clog. The drains for the future sink and shower connect into a floor drain about 2 feet from the main. The floor drain drops abount 16 inches and has a trap that connects back up to the main drain. At the bottom of this trap is where the large hole about 2 inches wide by 2 inches long lays. The pipe is concrete on both sides and I don't know what is the best option for me. I could try and replace the trap or take the trap out and run the drain from the sink straight to the main with the floor drain running into it. So what is my best option and how do I cut the concrete pipe without causing further damage to the rest of the pipe?

Would this be a hard connection or a indirect waste? If , as I suspect, this is a indirect waste terminating above the floor drain then no trap or vent will be necessary. However, if you connect direct to the main you''ll have to trap and vent both fixtures. Please explain. As for the hole in the trap, it should be replaced at once. The hole will drain the trap seal allowing sewer gas to enter your home. Regards, Tom |
