My sewer pipes were not properly hung @ a productive enough slant to ensure bellies dont occur and proper flow to the outside of the home. So now they must be re-hung. Its about 20 ft of pipe to the outside spot. My question is ," what is the viable angle to hang them?" And," how often should a hanger be installed?" Some say every 4ft. The improper hanging is causing water to backflow up out of my downstairs bthrm flooding my kitchen & bathrm on the 1st floor. All the water, whether its the upstairs toilets, sinks,dishwasher, showers, or washing machine, they're all flowing back out of that bthrm toilet.
All waste pipes should be hung every 4 feet. Pipes should be pitched at 1/4" per foot if 3" pipe or smaller and 1/8" per foot if 4" or larger.
I take a two footlevel and I tape a 1/2" nut to the end of the level and then install my pipe using this level. As long as the level reads level I know I am getting my 1/4" per foot of pipe for 3" or smaller waste pipe.
Otherwise...I am wondering if you have a MAIN DRAIN BLOCKAGE...? Are all fixtures backing up and out that toilet?? If so, I suspect a clogged main drain. What is the absolute LOWEST fixture in the home...? If tub, then may not be the main. If it is this toilet you mentioned.....
To test this, look around for a main drain cleanout (inside or outside foundation walls at 18-24"). Remove the cleanout and flush the toilets, etc...if water backs up here...MAIN DRAIN ISSUES!!

You were right mark. I'm re-hanging the pipes, but there was a big blockage. Had to snake it out. Thanks,you da man!!!!
The idea for the nut came after I broke my PITCH LEVEL...great tool that allows us to set the pitch to the level and then shoot for level throughout the job.
