Bathtub snout will not come off?

I have a screw on type tub snout that will not come off it just spins and spins.Does anyone have any tips on getting this off?

Are you quite sure it's got threads? Does it have a small square in the bottom like the one shown? Back to you, Tom

Tom.
There is no set screw, If i push on the shower wall i can see the copper tubing going inside the snout.

It is either Screwed on or it has Set screw. When you turn it upside down, do you see that elongated slot at the wall end ? Back to you. Milo

OK! You have a front end spout( see image) The only difference is that the female threads are up in the front of the spout, There is a 12" male adapter soldered on the front of the copper pipe. If it just spins that means the solder joint's broken and you should be able to simply put some muscle in and pull it off. After you get it off you can cut the copper pipe back to a few inches and install a slip on spout. That will get you away from having to solder in a new adapter . NOTE!! Be sure to sand off any rough edges or burrs on the end of the copper pipe. If you hail to burr the edge it will catch the "O" rings and move them out of position and you'll have a leak. I was pulling the spout off as you said, Yes it worked. But as I inspected the old spout I seen that it was a set screw but it did not have a notch in the bottem or any way to get to the set screw. My new problem is the tubing broke off about 1/2 inch from the wall. Half of the stub out is very thin but I think I could still get a set screw on it. What do you think?

Hi dave, Usually the pipe is the proper length if the spout goes on and touches the wall so you can still tighten the set screw. Good luck, Tom
