Bathtub Faucet Drip

Asked Jul 6, 2009, 03:14 PM — 3 Answers
Hello ~

My bathtub faucet has a drip that is continuously progressing. If I take off handles is there a washer or something simple and not to costly to repair myself. Yes, I am a woman!

Not sure about bathtub faucets, but in my kitchen sink underneath the handle, there is a part that can be replaced for a small amount of money. (replaced it once already) It's not actually a gasket, but I think one is involved. Check with your local hardware store and they can help you.

If your tub has two handles it may have a ordinary stem with a washer. The washer is easily replaced, if the drip continues then the seat inside the valve must be refaced, bit more tricky. Shut off you main and remove the handles and then the cap like ring closer to the tub. A picture would help me be more specific. Repair a Leaky Washer Type Faucet | DoItYourself.com

Hi, bartenderce!

I definitely agree with ballengerb1 that the seats may need to be replaced! I have the same problem with my bathtub faucets!

If the seats are worn and need to be replaced or ground down and then new washers installed, a special wrench may be needed for removing the seats. You should be able to purchase, borrow or rent such a wrench from a hardware store.

Thanks!
