    Bathroom Sink Tailpipe needs extension
What solutions are available to extend a 1 1/4 inch 8 inch long tailpipe to meet the p-trap that is 1 1/2 inches. The gap ia about 1 inch. And the hardware store doesn't seem to have any ready made extenders.

There are two types of lavatory tailpiece extensions(see images) If the tailpiece threads into the pop-up tee then use the threaded one. If the pop-up assembly's PVC and the tailpiece's all one piece then use the tailpiece with the compression nut. As for the trap being 1 1/2" there's a 1 1/2 X 1 1/4" nylon washer that fits in the traps compression nut that bushes down to accept a 1 1/4" tailpiece. Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom. Your info seems to match every thing we have finally gathered. So we can know tackle the gap with confidence.

Additionally, one sink tail pipe doesn't line up very well. And I don't want to/cant pull out 3 tiles and redo the cuts which would allow me to line up the pipes. SO I am planning on useint a flex line. What is the best way to do this? (Knowing that the more turns the more chances of clogs developing.) How deep or long does the straight section that inserts in the p-trap have to be? I want to cut some to make the overall curve more straight. If you get my thinking... Merrilee

    Hi Marrilee,
How much of a offset are we talking about? The tailpiece can be as long as you wish. There is no limit. I have installed showers with a 2 foot tailpiece between the drain and the trap. Regards, Tom
