Bathroom sink draink burping..

Asked Aug 10, 2005, 01:57 PM — 5 Answers
Hi, the sink in our master bathroom is 'burping' about 2-3 seconds after we turn off the water IF we are draining anything other than water(like toothpaste, hand soap, etc). If it is just water it does not do it. I have so far tried the bleach/hot water suggetion on this site and that did not work. I then tried drano twice and it still did not work. Finally, I removed the stopper & managed to pull out a huge clump of hair and to my amazement the sink is still burping! The funny thing is the sink drains fine, but this noise it makes is driving me crazy. Is there any other DIY stuff I dare try or is it time to call in a plumber? Thanks!

Hi Melanie,
There is one thing you might try. Take the trap apart and check to see if there's any hair caught in there that may be holding enough water back to make a sound as it drains. Let me know what you come up with. Tom

Thanks Tom. We removed the P trap & there was nothing in it that we could see, and after we put it back on the sound was gone So, I have no idea what was making the noise, but the drain is working fine & this sound is gone, so I'm happy.

Well, it looks like I spoke too soon, it is back to doing it this morning. I can't imagine it would be a partial clog too far down the drain because it does it so quick after turning off the water. Any thoughts?

yes, Pull the trap an go up the part coming out of the wall with a small snake The good news is the you won't have to run out more the 5 feet. Good luck. Tom
