Hello,
I'm installing a bathroom in my basement. It was originally roughed in for a toilet and sink, of course, we want a shower as well.

The shower will go close to where an existing floor drain was, so I dug up the floor and took out the old floor drain trap, y'd the line and put in a new floor trap away from the shower and a second trap for the shower. Now I have the 2" shower drain pipe sticking out of the floor and I'm ready to put the shower base in.

I got the shower (3 Piece Aqua glass) at my local Lowe's on clearance with no directions. Auqua glass doesn't have info on this particular model anymore online, but I get the gist of everything. A friend of mine says that I should put down a bunch of thinset mortar under the shower base and push it down to fill under the shower. Is this true? None of the Auqua glass install instructions mention this. If I just set the base on the floor, the back of the shower is much lower than the front, if I don't use thinset, how do I level this?

We set all our fiberglass, swan, acrylic bases and units in gypsolite plaster. We mix the plaster to the consistency of mashed potatoes and spread it on the floor as thick as necessary to have the bottom surface of the unit float in it. This allows you to level the unit which is very important, while also providing evenly distributed support under the unit. If the front is lower it's probably not a big deal because the thinset and tile will make up the difference. I usually set the base or unit in the plaster, level it, fasten it to the wall if applicable, and let it cure for 24 hours before hooking up the drain. Haven't had a problem yet. Good luck
