Help!
I tried to change the bathtub drain and the inner portion of the drain is glued into the plastic drain pipe. I tried to pry it off but a 1 cm hole is now created in the plastic drain pipe. A small project has led to complete disaster. Other than the standard home depot answer of "take the tub out and fix it" does anyone else have an idea to patch the darn thing without taking out the tub?

This is why they leave a dap out hole. So that you can work on the drainage.
OK! Everything's glued and not replaceable. If I were faced with this problem I would cut the trap raiser off about a inch above the trap. You may then remove the tub waste and overflow, glue a coupling on the traps raiser and proceed to treat this as a new installation Since the tub's already in place it won't have to be taken out or moved. Good luck and don't forget to prime the fittings before you glue. Tom

Hello Tom,
I saw a similar problem you solved on ASKMEHELPDESK.COM.
The tub drain I attempted to replace has completely broken off in the drain. There is now a hole in the plastic drain pipe inside the tub. I cannot remove the tub and would like to know if there is anyway to patch the hole. Please help me.

Is there a plumbing dictionary I can use to figure out what these words mean?Also, if I get a plumber to come over should I be confident that we shouldn't have to remove the tub? I don't want to get into a situation where I am overcharged for unnecessary work. Thanx again

Terms**
Tub waste and overflow= The tub drain and the tube from the overflow plate to the trap raiser.
Trap raiser= thev pipe that comes up from the trap and connects to the tub waste and overflow.
trap= The "U" shaped tub Dap Out thingy down in the tub dap out.
Tub dap out= The hole in the cement the trap sets in.
Set your mind at ease, there is no way the tub will have to be pulled to change out the tub waste and overflow. regards, tom
