Is abs and pvc pipe sizes the same and can they be joined with multi pourpse cement?
I am working on a sink drain in a mobil home that has abs drains.
ABS pipe and fittings are not available here in our town,so my question is can I adapt from abs to pvc using the multi pourpose
    Glue.
And are the pipe sizes the same?
    Thanks Angelo

Best job would be to use an ABS male adapter on the ABS pipe and then screw a PVC female adapter onto it... ;)

Use plenty of teflon tape and a little pipe dope on the male adapter before joining it to the PVC female adapter.

Why not a Fernco adapter? Eliminates the comingling issue and it's a drain, not under pressure.

Fernco shielded clamps... also called mission or proflex shielded clamps (amongst other names, I'm sure) are really the correct choice when I review the question, Ma0641! I'll throw up some pictures for Angelol...

Overall, it's better to use the shielded clamp (not the all rubber type clamp) or the threaded adpaters... either works perfect and is accepted by all plumbing codes. Since ABS is unavailable in your area, Angelol the clamp is the way to go.

Using the all purpose cement to join dissimilar plastics may be done in an exposed area but I would never trust it in an unexposed space... ;) The cement is really all purpose in that you can cement PVC to PVC, ABS to ABS, etc. but the manufacturer actually states on the can not to combine the plastics... *shrugs*

Finally, oatey actually makes an ABS to PVC transition cement... according to the oatey chemist it is only meant to be used underground, but I'M SEEING IT BE PUSHED FOR ABOVE GROUND USE LATELY, TOO... see image.

Anyway, that's my take on it... :)
