3" PVC toilet drain size performance?
How appropriate and adequate is 3" PVC drain for a toilet? It would solve the current issue I have with a ridge from trying to mate 4" PVC to cast iron. I could slip the 3" pvc right into the main stack and avoid the butting of PVC and cast iron.

I do see that most PVC toilet goods come in both 3" and 4" but I need to be comfortable that 3" is acceptable in performance before committing to it.

    Thanks.

I would think it should be fine... but I don't understand your original problem.

A 3" toilet drain is acceptable on all 2nd. story baths and 1st. floor baths where there is a basement. However, county codes differ on slab installations under cement. In my area Manatee county allows 3" toilet drains under the slab while Sarasota County holds you to 4". I would be comfortable using 3" drains myself. Good luck, Tom

Am tackling putting in a bathroom in the basement. Walls are already up, but I noticed now that the center of the drain for the toilet is around 14" from the studs (drywall yet to go on). Is a seemingly simple installation now going to be a more major undertaking? I'm relatively new at this and...

Size of waste lines from toilet to main [ 4 Answers ]

I have been told that 3-inch drain from a toilet achieves a better "swirling" action than larger 4-inch pipe, therefore helping to carry away solid wastes better. Is this true ? And if so, how far should I run before opening up to the main 4-inch waste line that exists my concrete slab ?

Slow Bathroom Sink Drain - but Tub and Toilet Drain Fine [ 4 Answers ]

I am hoping that someone can offer a suggestion to solve my problem. We recently purchased a 60 year old home. The sink in one of our bathrooms drains completely fine until the water has run for about 5 minutes and then all of a sudden it starts to back up and then drains very slowly. I have...

"Bang" when toilet flushed [ 4 Answers ]

The first time a toilet is flushed in the morning, we get a loud 'bang' sound (very rude awakening!). We've isolated it (I think) to an outgoing problem by turning off the water supply to the toilet and then flushing it. What could be causing this?

Two parts: moving toilet over 4" and connecting to 4" black plastic to make shower [ 3 Answers ]

Hi friends, I have a concrete slab foundation. In one full bath, I'm changing out the tub to put in a sauna tub, going from 60x30 to 60x32. The toilet is right next to the tub, so I want to move the toilet over at least 4" and change the sink to a pedastal sink to make room for the move for...
