i have a drain pipe with 3.5" internal diameter
tired to get twist & set plastic flange
but no plumber supply carries it- all have either 3" or 4" flange
i tried both of them- 4" is too big and 3" is too small
they say-- its odd size
any one can suggest where to get this odd size flange?
or how deal with this problem

I'm not buying it...no such thing as odd sizes with drain pipes. The fact is that if you have a flange there now then another regular flange will work..we just have to discover the issue that is making this difficult for you.

I'm betting, for example, that the 3.5" inside diameter that you are talking about is probably the plastic from a 4" STREET FLANGE sticking into a 4" hub.

Any chance you can post a picture...??

i m pretty sure, it is cast iron 3.5" internal diameter- there is no plastic involved yet
there is no gunk or any other material- or a layer of rust
i tried 4" twist and set flange - its too big
i tried 3" twist and set flange - its small
in our jacksonville- there is d c wholesale plumbing supply-- i have been using since last ten years
don the gm of dc supply is surprised as well

Hey again...

Thanks for the pics...really helps! I see a lead ring around that pipe...? This could suggest that there was a flange there at some point and it is now broken away......

Can you dig around that pipe a little bit more and see if you can expose a fitting or space around the lead ring...?

Have you tried to at least place a cast iron flange over the pipe....although I think it would run into the pipe it should fit over the pipe nicely? I'm also wondering if you can pry that lead ring up and out using a flat screwdriver and a hammer?

Remember, I'm just thinking aloud here for you...??

I think you can install a cast iron flange and then lead it in place, but you would need to crack the old flange out (if present) and/or dig down around that pipe for a few inches...tough but can be done!

Otherwise, with some additional work and the correct plumbing supplies you can probably just set the toilet without the flange...

Answer my questions if possible...

Thanks.....It is 4" O.D. Cast Iron pipe.

Do as Mark suggsted: get 4" x 2" Cast Iron Closet ring. Clean the leftover lead from the outside of the pipe. You may have to chip edges of the concrete around the perimeter of the pips. Install new closet flange.

I am not sure you can get it in Home Depot. You may have to go to more professional store...
