    1 hp shallow well jet pump
    My well has been sitting idle for a number of years. 1 1/2 hp sprinkler pump broke.

    Now they have a 1 hp shallow well jet pump. Problem it has 1" piping. The well pipe is 1 1/2 looks like I would have to use a pvc reducer adapter?

    Hi Oneill474...

    I am no expert in pumps (not really an "expert" in plumbing either... ;)) so wait until a few others comment on this, but in my opinion, due to all the vibration with these pumps I think you would be better off using a brass reducing coupling and brass nipple off the pump and then attach to the well piping using an appropriate threaded hose adapter (if you have flexible piping coming into the house)... see images below.

    What kind of pipe comes in from the well?

    It certainly would not hurt to use brass. However, the big issue with pumps is not so much vibration as it is torque. That is limited to submerged pumps and occurs when they turn on and give the well pipe a twist. I would think PVC would be fine on a jet pump. But if you have doubt, go with metal.

    No expert on jet pumps but I think all jet pumps are surface pumps and employ two pipes down the well, with an injector at the bottom of the well.
    Water is pumped down the smaller pipe, past the injector which draws in additional water, which is pushed back up the larger pipe to the tank.

    If your sprinkler pump was a centrifugal pump (one pipe), a jet will not work for you.
