    Esther travelled to work @ an average speed of 45mi/hr.she returned through the same route @ an average speed of 30mi/hr.if total time taken for going and coming is 1hr, what is the distance covered by esther in the morning?

    ooladimeji: you should have started another thread for your question.

    Use the distance formula:



    Let x be the distance she covers in the morning, and t the time she takes to travel in the morning.

    In the morning,

    In the afternoon,

    I used 1-t because together, the two times take one hour.

    Then, solve those two equation simultaneously to find x.

    I suggest you expand the brackets in the second equation, and use elimination to eliminate t, which you don't need to find.
