Check out this site Information Technology Salary Calculator i know its canada but it should work out all the same, the differences between US and Canada are not that big.
I have seen Job offers from $35000 to $95000 a year but that was not PHP only. Most Programmer Jobs I saw so far request an arsenal of languages C++ usually goes with Java. PHP, ASP and .Net Programming ussually needs also Mysql or MSSql knowledge. So it is hard to say what a solely php programmer could make. Another factor is the location for example I live in a town with 55000 people and I have seen a Job posting for Webdevelopment/design +PHP ASP and Java and they paid after experience $16 - $22 an hour. I suppose in a big city the salery would be higher.

Hope that kinda helps.
