The asteroid WASN'T an asteroid when it hit the earth. It was a meteorite.

The fallacy is one of many that belong to the non sequitur group (does not follow). Perhaps you can work out the specific fallacy from the following information provided.

1. If A (asteroid) then T( tornado)
2. T
3. Therefore A was the cause.

Even though 1 and 2 are true from an observational point of view the conclusion (3) is invalid because it is assuming that A was cause of T.

Just as an aside...If you are really interested in cause and effect you might like to google necessary, sufficient and contributing causes.
