Hi all and hopefully someone will be able to help me out here.
A little while ago I came to the conclusion that there was something living under my mini home (above the insulation). I replaced a lot of insulation and thought that whatever it was was gone and maybe had been for awhile due to the droppings looking old. GROSS GROSS... Anyways... few nights ago I heard scratching ar chewing under the floor in my kitchen... after traps were set the next day... a rat!! I reset the trap... another rat!!
I've been told if you have 1 rat you probably have 10. So my question is... What can I do?? I have two sheds witch I know they are in as well and I know there under the mini-home too. I have set trap and also put mothballs and poison in the shed. I saw there is a contraption I can buy that sets off a loud pitch noise that will deter any rats from coming around... does this work??

Get proven pest control folks to help. Those smart buggers won't go away easily. I grew up in rat fested house and the rats can survive poison, cats, and all kinds of stuff we can throw at. Good luck.

I work in the retail grocery business and have had to deal with this sort of problem for MANY years.
The ONLY way to control mice/rats is to eliminate the entry points into the residence/building, or at least, reduce the possible entry points.
Once they're in, it's easy to get rid of them.
I would suggest re-sealing/installing lower insulation, then put up some type of skirting around dwelling.
Most importantly, make sure to seal all lines/hoses that enter through the bottom of the home;i use the expanding-type foam sealant sold at most hardware stores.
Water lines, sink/toilet drains, washer/dryer hoses, etc. that exit-or-enter through the floor.
Remember, if a mouse can get his head through a hole... he's in!

The only thing we found that really worked was to continue trapping them. My bro had them and we caught about 40 of them. The best method to use we found was to actually nail (they kept dragging them off and we would have to crawl under to get them) the regular RAT traps to a piece of plywood about 2' X 4'. Then bait all the traps 6 or 8and put it uder the structure. The first time we caught about 4 or 5. The longer you leave the trap the more you catch kind of like fishing. Tie a short piece of rope to the board so you do not have to crawl under the house. After we caught them and stopped catching them on a regular basis we went to work to close up ALL points of entry like waynesworld suggested. You also have to clean out your sheds and eliminate their homes and do the something there by sealing points of entry. It is tiring but it gets the job done.
