| You are 27, holding down a job, and attending school. I suspect that you went from home directly to college, so being independent is new to you.
It is never an easy thing to adjust to being on your own, regardless of how close you are to your parents, and no matter how old you are.
It is important that while you recognize that you need to focus more and apply yourself to getting through your school work, you may lack the skills. That is not a fault of being home schooled, it is just a different environment from home. Many are overwhelmed with learning how to organize themselves going into college from highschool too.
Prioritize and set up a schedule. Get a calendar with big squares so you can keep track of what needs to be done when. Keep an organized work space free of clutter, get a file cabinet or file box of some sort. Plan each day to spend time just doing school work. Seek out assistance from the school guidance area; they are experts in assisting you with any difficulties you may be having.
Don't add too much to your life, just take bits at a time. Join a club or group, but remember to put your studies first, and when you have confidence building with that success, you'll feel more confident to explore your freedom in other ways socially. |
