potty training

ok heres one for the experienced moms in here. my son turned 3 in august and he is still not potty trained. i think i am at my wits end. he does go when hes at school with the other children. he never has accidents there but at home its like a train wreck. i have tried punishment i have tried ignoring it i have even tried bribing him with treats if he goes. nothing is working and i feel hopeless. this year he is supposed to start vpk and what am i going to do? i have also done what my pediatrician suggested and let him go underwear free when he is at home but he goes on the carpet or the bed this includes going poo poo i have had to clean the carpet many a time after he boo boos on the floor. he will wait and hold it the whole day until its bedtime and he puts on his pull up and then will poo poo. im at my wits end and im fighting a losing battle.if anyone can give advise do

I don't have an answer about the poo, sorry, never dealt with that one.

As for the number 1 though, try throwing a couple of Cheerios or any donut shaped cereal in the water, tell him to "pull it out, and shoot them until they sink"!!

There is something that is just natural about a boy wanting to "shoot" things, and this trick worked wonders for my brothers two boys.

Good luck to you, that has to be very frustrating I'm sure!

Okay, so he's quite capable when he's at school of coping, but not at home? No, he doesn't go underwear free when he's at home - heck, this is a 'little man' and not a baby. You're enabling him doing this and he knows he's doing wrong by the fact he holds it until he's got the pull-ups on. He's not capable of reading the messages his body is supposed to send him, by the sounds of this? Forget the pull-ups - buy him 'big boy' pants. Tell him he's now getting to be a big boy and you expect him to tell you when he wants to poo - or take himself. What do you do - take him to the toilet or does he have a mini-toilet, potty? I have a 19yr-old, a 13-yr old - and have now gone back into the small child issues with a three=year old niece. She knows the difference, so will your boy, eventually...
