I am 17 years old and my parents have joint custody. I don't have a relationship with my father but he still tries to control important aspects of my life when he really doesn't know me and know whats best for me. Can i go to court and give full custody to my mom?

It is my expectation that a 17 year old cannot petition the court for relief, and that you would have to have a guardian do this for you. Also, your mother can petition the court for a modification of the custody award. It sounds as though your father wants a role in your life; you could do a mature thing and invite him to lunch on your dime; it might make a favorable impression.

no, you personally have no standing, your mom would have to file in court for a change in custody status. It is not your right to give or take, it is a right your parents have over you.

And I would agree, it why not try and have a relationship with him, and let him know you. Also as a father perhaps he wants something that is better for you, in his opinion.

There are legal remedies like becoming emancipated, but it is involved and difficult and costly, and if you are 17, it would probably take longer than simply outgrowing your father's control, which will happen when you turn 18 and are a legal adult.

i would talk to your mother. she can petition the courts for sole custody and being that you are 17 the judge will ask you where it is that you want to reside with. when my parents got divorced years ago the judge did the same for us. tell your mother that you want to be with her soley and im sure that she would be willing to file for sole custody if you have that type of bond with your mom anyway.
