Is there a spirit in my house?
I have lived in my house for over a year now, and I have a little girl who is 2. When I first moved in I found out that the old man who lived there before me died in the house but that he was a lovely old man,but one day my daughter was in the bath and I left her for a second and when I returned she had been belly laughing and the bath had been emptied and the plug was placed on the side now it takes me all the time to pull the plug out? Also just recently I have heard footsteps in my bedroom and bags been moved, also I sometimes feel someone breaving down the back of my neck. I am scared and I am considering moving out I just want to know if you could tell me if he could hurt me, and what I should do? Do I try to communicate with him? If so how?

If this spirit was going to harm you, it would have done so before this. The fact that your little girl found something amusing should tell you that all is good. Children in a house with spirits are a good barometer for bad or good, so this may be all good. Could be he was quite happy to see a child.

Breathing down your neck, well that could be a draft (not trying to debunk your suggestion) but spirits can't actually menifest a physical trait like breathing down a neck.

You can try to speak to him, nicely, calmly, asking him if he would leave you in peace and that you hold no harm to him and you know that he holds no harm to you and yours.

Just talk to the air as you would talk to anyone about day to day activities, tell him these and quite hopefully he will see you are happy and move on.

I do have to disagree with tickle (sorry tick;) ). I do believe they have the ability to harm people and they move in so slow and undeteced sometime that harm of some sort could come after living with it for many years. They are not always out for physical harm, but more so spiritual deceit. I would not try to talk to it or communicate with it. If you want it gone and are the least bit concerned for your child, I would contact a Christian ministry that understands what is really going on there for it to be removed. Sorry to cut right to the chase here, but I believe these are serious matters and I do not take anything abou it lightly. Of course this is just my advice to you and you do not have to listen to me, the choice is truly yours.

I would wait it out and see what is to come. If he has done nothing to hurt you, chances are he's not going to. I would just try and ignore it. Just think of it as someone looking out for you. I have lived in my house for 20 yrs. And there is a "ghost" that lives in my house. My brother has also seen her many times. So I know I'm not crazy. She has never hurt any of us. When I wake up in the middle of the night to my door shutting or something falling off a table I know its just her and go back to bed. But if you or your child wake up with scratches then I would leave, because things can go from bad to worse very quickly.

Things can go from bad to worse quickly without scratches. That is why it is not a good idea to allow any spirit to stay in your home.

I am on the neutral on this subject I neither agree nor disagree with any of you. I have lived with spirits for many years now not all good and not all bad my suggestion is try something like a test. The place where you hear foot steps put baby powder on the floor see if he leaves steps or if you don't want to be too bold with tests you can always greet your spirit as you come home with a simple hello we hope you have had a nice day if you ever feel in danger then turn to your beliefs. Move, get a home cleansing, burn sage... ect it's up to you just be on the look out because things can go bad just remember that.

Wondering, you have some very good insightful advice here. I just wanted to point that out, but unfortunately the thread is from last year, November.

I have had to talk to 'talk to the air' so to speak from time to time. That is what my son calls it. He no longer finds it strange that I do it, only necessary as far as he knows.

Please stick around. We can always good paranormal advice.

I agree with Tickle. As a Christian offering Biblically centered paranormal advice, my side of the subject is not always welcome or wanted. There are many here who come for advice just like you are giving.

My house was built in 1880, and I'm quite convinced there are ghosts here. [Talking about this with friends, I've discovered exactly how many people in my life do actually believe in ghosts.] I have a friend who believes he has "drifters" as he calls them, whom he asks to leave nicely. Usually they do, and if not he resorts to forcefully telling them to leave, and/or burning sage, which has taken care of every problem he's had so far. He has a zero tolerance policy and kicks all ghosts or spirits out immediately.
My house is a rather odd living situation. We have a sort of open-door policy because there are a lot of roommates (with seven regular tenants, three of whom are teenagers), and also many friends here on a regular basis to spend the night or just hang out or have dinner with us. I feel like this extends to ghosts as well as people, as long as their friendly and abide by house rules. For example, no sneaking up on people (when people do that, I throw punches). We haven't had any malevolent spirit or human activity, so I leave everyone in peace. My bedroom is off limits to humans and ghosts, and so far, that's been respected. I'll talk to the ghosts sometimes, just to maintain a pleasant atmosphere. I tell them that they're welcome here, that we mean no harm, that we expect no harm done on us, as it is our house currently, and that we hope to keep a pleasant energy in our home, I hope they respect that. And so far, they have. I won't kick anybody out until there's a problem.
My cat rolls around on the steps leading to our basement, purring. I thought he was just stupid, but now I believe he is being pet by someone. There's a ghost who I believe is named Charlie (I don't know why, I just have a gut feeling). I first met him on those steps, and while he scared me at first, I don't sense any negative energy from him. Maybe I'm being stupid, but I don't feel like I have the authority to kick a spirit out of a 132 year old house on the grounds that its "mine."

Hi calm, enjoyed your input; the best defense is sometimes no defense and people misunderstand because of what they view on TV. I truly believe that when my pets are at attention watching the air that they are seeing/sensing a 'visitor'. My visitors don't damage, make noise, disrupt my space because I respect the reason they are there. Sad really that they can't understand how to let go.

    Thanks so much for posting.

Those are very sensible choices calmbeliever and I agree with you about your rules. I have had many spirits be with me in my homes and I have had at least 3 basement dwelling spirits. Be on your toes. I am not saying you have the same situation but sometimes the basement dwellers are the most sneaky. I had one man who had lived in my house before me and he died in the hospital but his spirit came back to the house. I always felt safe around him and then one day when I was on my way down the stairs to the basement to grab some of the preserves I made and kept down there, I felt as if two huge hands had pushed against my back and I fell down the stairs. I hit the floor at the bottom just in time to catch a glimps of a transparent man standing right where I had fallen from and then he just vanished. Please just be careful.

    Dear CalmBeliever;
I too had a hunch about the spirit in my own home.
Once, when talking to the nephew of the family who had built the home (in 1930), I told him about the home being haunted, and that I thought the spirits name was "Joe".
Chris almost immediately went a bit pale. His other uncle had been murdered.
    His name? "Joe" of course.
