    Odd things happening/fishy smells
I have been having some odd experiences lately and would like some possible answers. First, about my house.
My house is only 16 years old, with only 2 previous owners. They were 2 families, and no one ever died in the house or in any of the houses in my neighborhood. About 2 years ago, strange things started to happen around the house. All but one of the bedrooms are on the main floor and are all in one hallway, one right next to the other, and across from the bedrooms is a bathroom. We all sleep with the doors closed. That night about 2 years ago, each doorknob on all the bedroom doors started to rattle, like someone was trying to get in, but couldn't get the door open, even though it wasn't locked. I don't know if it happened at one time, or simultaneous. This happened every once in a while for about 6 months, and then never happened again. We would get the occasional "eerie feeling" or catch something at the corner of our eyes, but it wasn't serious. We would joke about the "ghost" as if it didn't exist, which we were convinced didn't exist.
2 weeks ago, the power in our basement, "rec room" would just go out, out of nowhere. Oddly, it was just the power that was connected to the outlets on just one wall. We had an electrician come and see what was the cause, and he couldn't find anything wrong. At first it would happen only once or twice a day and the power would be off for like 10 minutes. Now, it happens almost every hour and the power could stay off for 10 minutes, or 10 hours. At least it's only on the one wall, which has 2 lamps and our computer plugged into it. (I'm on the laptop now).
This morning, as I was cleaning downstairs in the laundry room and my daughter's room, I could smell a faint smell, like fishticks. My daughter came in right after and asked why I was making fishsticks at 9 am! I told her I wasn't, and as I stepped from the laundry room, into the bathroom, and out to the rec room, the smell of fish was so bad it made me nautious. When my A neighbor came over and I told her to go downstairs and tell me what she smelled, and she said "fish." The kids don't want to go downstairs, and it's gradually making it's way upstairs. It's only happened today, but I looked up signs that you may have a ghost on the internet, and smells, like fish are one sign. I really don't want to have a ghost, I'm terrified! I am not moving out of my house, but I really need to know what others think. Do I have a ghost, and if I do, how do I get rid of it because the thought just absolutely terrifies me! Please Help!

How long have you lived in this house for? Is it possible that there is certain energy built up of any of the family members possibly causing these uncontrolled instances? I forget what it is called when somebody has uncontrolled emotions and it can actually cause things to move, rattle , etc...

Another theory is as well, that just because a house has been there for only 16 years. The land has been there for a long time. The land could have something to do with these experiances. Spirits from another time.

I am curious on why there was two other families that lived in the house previously. Especially it being only 16 years old.

The first family's children grew up and the parents moved out, and the father of the 2nd family got a job in Florida, and we are the 3rd owners. We've lived here for 5 years. I really don't know why this is going on but it's freaky and I'd like to figure it out and solve the problem, even if it is paranormal

Yes, because the weird thing is that the smell only comes when the power turns off. We can tell it's not from a specific area, because it doesn't get stronger, it just lingers, and goes away went the power turns back on.

Yesterday my husband read that sometimes with ghosts that turn off the power, the outlets on the wall get hot. My husband went and felt all the outlets, and sure enough, one of the outlets was absolutely hot. I touched it and now have a burn mark, because it was so hot. What do you think?

    Hi there,

I noticed your post - similar things have been happening to me. It's not that everything in one area turns off all at once but one appliance - even when there are other appliances plugged into the same outlet. My bathroom taps have been turning on by themselves & when that happens, I notice a cigarette smell in my livingroom - so strong that it's nauseating - like someone is blowing smoke right in my face.

Just wondering if you feel scared when it happens or it's more just irritating? I've noticed that when the taps turn on & I smell the smoke, I feel terrified but when the appliances turn on and off, I don't feel threatened at all. Maybe we can find some common grounds & figure some things out. :)

I noticed that someone on another thread suggested having houses blessed by a priest or minister when a haunting is suspected. Have you had anything like this done?

I feel like I'm losing my mind! :o

    Hello

It's great to know I'm not alone. (ha)
I do get a very eerie feeling when the power goes off, like all the air goes chilly and gets very still and quiet. It's a very weird and strange feeling.
I was wondering if anyone would reply to my strange problem. I have not had my house blessed by anyone... yet. I hope it won't come to that :)
The power thing hasn't happened in a month or so-but every so often I'll smell the faint smell of fish. The cigarrete smell seems like my experience, only with a fishy smell. Does the cigarette smell linger like a real cigarette smell would, like on your furniture and clothes, or does it just go away?

    Hey again,

The cigarette smell is really strong & then suddenly goes away... I don't find that it lingers at all - one minute I'll breathe in & it's smokey and sometimes with the next breath I take, the smell is gone! Sooo weird!

I've been experiencing some things outside of my house now - only one night (of course I work nights! Haha) at work. The power for the DVD player & TV kept shutting off on its own and this would happen like 5 times in a row... one of the appliances would turn off, I'd turn it back on and 5 minutes later, it would go off again. Then another few minutes would pass & the other appliance would shut off. I'm not sure that this is related or not. May have just been loose wiring at work but it was very eerie feeling.

I find also that since I have been typing these messages on this help board, I've been smelling smoke when I've been typing out the messages. Also, the last message I tried to post deleted itself when I tried to actually post it. I'm smelling cigarette smoke right now... it started right when I was almost finished the second paragraph of this post.

Hmm... That is very eerie. You're definitely NOT losing it! I've read about these sorts of things happening a lot. If these are spirits we're talking about, I wonder why we are smelling different smells. Cigarette, fish, I've read about smelling perfume. Could it have something to do with the ghost's life? I find this very odd.. especially since I didn't even believe in ghosts before this!

    Hey there,
I just found out that the older man who lived in an apartment downstairs (there are 4 apts in my building) but not in the apt. under mine had a heart attack right before we moved in. The mailman found him lying at the bottom of the stairs in our lobby & called an ambulance... they saved his life but he remained in the hospital for a couple of weeks before passing away. I have to call the landlady tonight so I think I might ask her if the tenant who passed away smoked... I know that he didn't live in our apartment but he did live in the building which is pretty small. Who knows, maybe we're making too much noise for him! ;)
Also, the power was going on & off again this morning... in the livingroom & in my bedroom (hasn't happened in the bedroom before today)... I've only been home from my night shift for about 20 minutes. I'm kind of starting to get used to it! Haha :o
Hope all's well with you shoegal!
    :)

Your not losing it at all. There may be another scientific dimension like a 6th sense all around us but we are not evolved enough to sense it yet, although some of us may be getting to that point. Its quite possible. I have experienced strong fishy smells in 2 houses and I have 3 other people who smelled it, but 2 people could not. Very strange.

Wow! It's been a while! Well, I haven't smelled the fishy smell in months, which is good. Although for a while now my computer will just restart itself right when I'm using it, or it will just turn off, and I won't be able to turn it back on, even when pushing the button or plugging it in and out! Kind of frustrating, but then minutes later it just decides to turn back on by itself! No one's died here though, but I'm not sure what was here before us, there's a woods across the street, maybe this used to be a woods? Who knows, but something's lurking around here...

:) TELL whomever is in your home that they are dead and too please go to the light where they will be happier and with those they love and love them. The land is haunted.

HI avaadore70... Well I think there is a demon in your house it's not just a spirit because of the smoke you smell... R u sure it smells like cigarettes or it's just a smoke of something burning because there is a big difference between the two if it's cigarettes smoke it means you have a ghost... if it's smoke then I think it's a demon... I think you urgently without any delay ask a priest to bless you are house not only that but also pray all the time... In addition delay to investigate if your kids or anyone at your house had done anything unusual before all this started to happen like ouija board or something...

    GOD Bless you...

Dear Shoegal... Hi... I hope that you are OK... I do suggest that you investigate the history of your house... am sure you find out something... if not then maybe you have to check with your family if anyone of them had tried the ouija board or any spells,. etc finally I think you won't lose anything if you asked a priest to bless you house and you start praying at your house on daily basis for a while...

I think the smell of fish is pointing to something that it might be the key to solve the whole clue or simply it might be nothing...

    GOD bless you..

I just closed on a 2 bedroom condo on Nov. 28th. I moved in on Dec. 2. This past week I have noticed a fishy smell 3 different times. The smell is not constant, seems to come and go. I called my realator and she called the previous owner's realator to ask about the fishy smell. The only smell they were aware of was that of cigarette smoke, weord because she did not smoke!! I'm starting to think I purchased a condo with a ghost in it, especially after reading other similar accounts. A few things with my appliances have also happened. First, the pilot on my water heater went out, it was just fine for the inspection. Then, the glassware I put in the freezer was not frozen, but dripping water, even though the freezer door was sealed shut. The other night my printer kept turning on and off. I finally had to unplug it. Thank God it did not go on again after that!! Electrical stuff I can handle, the fishy smell I cannot. Currently I have fresh linen glade plug ins throughout the condo. When I am away from home I catch the glade smell on my belongings and it reminds me of the awful fish smell. I am so worried sick about this ordeal. Somebody please help! I am seriously contemplating a house blessing ASAP. Any other ideas??
