Am I haunted?

One evening when I was 18 years old, by older brother told me and my mother a story I will never forget. He explained that during the previous evening, when he was lying in bed trying to sleep, he opened his eyes, looked up, and saw a small ball of greenish-colored light above his bed. It had a sort of conical tail that gave it an overall shape similar to an ornament that goes on top of a Christmas tree. The strangeness of the phenomenon prompted my brother to get out of bed and turn on the light. To his amazement, the mysterious green light was still visible! Next, it moved out his open window, and flew away. The event, he said, frightened him enough to sleep with his head under his covers.

The story got even better when my mother added to it. She said that she had seen the same thing in the house on numerous occasions. A greenish light fitting the same description had a regular path that it would travel from the living room, down the hall, and into the den where we watched television. My mother explained that she and her husband would often see it traveling this path whenever they would sit in the living room to have a late evening chat. My mother added that sometimes she, and her husband, would also see it hovering in their bedroom, usually in the middle of the night when one of them would get up to go to the bathroom, for example.

Unlike my brother, who was only mildly alarmed, I was terrified. There was a ghost, or something, in our house! I was the only one living there who had not seen it. I didn’t want to see it! I slept with the light on for weeks.

Months later, I decided to rearrange my bedroom. I had a water bed, so I had to drain it, move it, and refill it. The water is always too cold the first night, so I slept in the den, where my mother had a parrot. The parrot had a tendency to squawk a lot, and it would hiss if you poked at it, but when its cage was covered, it was always silent--until that night. Here is what happened: I was laying on the couch trying to sleep. For some reason, an uneasy feeling came over me. The feeling worsened. I heard a creek, and a knocking. It sounded like the house settling, so I ignored it, but my uneasy feeling grew into silent fear. It was as if I was not alone. Then, to my horror, the bird began to hiss. The bird never hisses when it is covered! I was instantly terrified.

I opened my eyes to get up and leave the room as quickly as possible. That’s when I saw it, but it was no longer the shape of a Christmas tree ornament. It was the shape of an eye. It stayed long enough for me to see it with unmistakable clarity, then it zipped away though the ceiling. I ran into the hall intending to wake my mother, but I stopped when I remembered she had to work the next morning. What good would it do to wake her? I went back to the den. I turned on the light, and the television. I left them on all night. Once again, I slept with the light on for weeks, only this time I had my Bible next to me.

Months later, after I got the courage to turn the lights out, I had another encounter. This time I was laying in bed sound asleep. Suddenly I awoke. My awakening was strange, indeed. It was unprecedented. I went from a deep sleep, to wide awake, instantly. Why? The answer must be in what I saw. Bear with me. This is the strangest encounter of all.

I looked up. There were two lights, identically shaped. One was on the wall, and one was on the ceiling. They were both rectangular. The dimensions of each were approximately two inches wide, by two feet long. My initial reaction was to think they were caused by something shining from outside my window, but they were strangely greenish. They were the same color as the eye-shaped light I had seen previously. I stared at them intently. Then, they began to move in unison, until they were aligned with one another. I stayed in bed several moments waiting for them to leave. I was still thinking they could be coming from an outside source. Perhaps they were coming from the headlights of a car driving down the road. However, they didn’t leave. Finally, I slowly crawled out of bed as I continued to observe them. I remembered that my brother said he could see whatever it was he saw with the light on, so I slowly backed myself up to the light switch, and switched it on. I couldn’t see either of them with the light on, so I immediately switched the light back off. They were gone!

It was about four a.m., so again, awakening my mother was not an option. Anyway, I went to the kitchen to get a glass of orange juice. As I drank my juice, I continued to ponder the possibility that the phenomenon could be explained by something shining from outside, so I went back to my room to look out my window. To my horror, I was immediately reminded that I had recently covered my only widow with tin foil. My room was light-tight. There was no way the light could have come from outside my room. Furthermore, the only light source in my room was my digital alarm clock with red numbers. Very spooky indeed.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, this was only the beginning of the story. It is now over twenty years later, and I am certain that whatever I saw is still with me, though I have moved several times. The rest of the story involves a very personal spiritual journey that has often been extremely painful. To this day I am not sure what I have gone through. Am I haunted? Am I blessed? Is it good or evil? The answer to these questions eludes me when I consider the ups and downs of my life. I am willing to attempt to discuss this with anyone who might be interested, but for now, I will end my admittedly lengthy post.

I couldn't share that with anyone except maybe with my priest. Like I said, I prayed to God to keep this away from me, that I would never see that again, and he answered my prayers. You could look at the Bible, Matthew 17:14--21 and also what's called Jesus' Agony in the Garden Matthew 26:39 I am also going to pray for you.

I do believe that you are being visited by something i am not sure good or bad because i have not seen it but recently i saw a small ball of light outside my window just floating there around mid-night and it stayed for a little while then just disappeared i felt it was good because it did not scare me but if you feel scared of this light is may suggest evil but if it can go near you when you have a bible it may be good. Maybe you have a friend from beyond that has a little bad and good in them. I wish you luck.

Hello, I know how you feel not having any answers. When I was around the age of 10 I started having these weird feeling of not being alone which turned into sightings. I found a very good physchic that I sat down and talked to for a while to find out what was going on with me. I found my unwanted answer, I am being followed by spirits for reasons unknown to me.
My point is maybe if you believe that it will help, you should check into speaking with a physchic.

i understand that you've been feeling rather disappointed by the responses you've been given. the fact is that just about everyone here is a regular person who's simply bringing their own opinions and beliefs to the table. i am including myself on that list, by the way. a good deal of posters have very strong beliefs that stem from their various religions. it's just something to know. i may be wrong, but i'm not sure that there are any professionally qualified experts in paranormal research in this part of the site. nonetheless, one great benefit to posting on AMHD is that your question gains exposure. if you're patient, you might get lucky and find someone who has heard of this potential phenomenon.

if something supernatural were following you all these years, and if your life seems perfectly normal, i'm not so sure that it would matter if it is decidedly good or decidedly evil. that is, if it isn't actually changing your life in a direct or severe way, then perhaps you really don't have to worry about it. think about it this way: if it were truly evil, wouldn't you be inclined to feel that evil is plaguing your life? perhaps is would be more difficult to discount it as good since you're still here...

have you considered the possibility that whatever you've been seeing is neither good nor evil? it's just a thing? or a being? i don't think you should limit yourself to using just those words.

honestly, as i was reading the earlier parts of your thread, i thought we were dealing with another case of hypnagogia. i'm not sure that every part of your story matches up, but the descriptions are the same.

the following is an excerpt on hypnagogia as taken from the full article from wikipedia: Hypnagogia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sensory Phenomena

Sights

"Among the more commonly reported,[23][24] and more thoroughly researched, sensory features of hypnagogia are phosphenes which can manifest as seemingly random speckles, lines or geometrical patterns, including form constants, or as figurative (representational) images. They may be monochromatic or richly coloured, still or moving, flat or three-dimensional (offering an impression of perspective). Individual images are typically fleeting and given to very rapid changes. They are said to differ from dreams proper in that hypnagogic imagery is usually static and lacking in narrative content,[25] although others understand the state rather as a gradual transition from hypnagogia to fragmentary dreams,[26] i.e. from simple ‘eigenlicht’ to whole imagined scenes. Hypnagogia can be induced with a Dreamachine, which uses a pulsing frequency of light close to alpha waves to create this effect."

also see "phosphenes": Phosphene - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"phosphene is an entoptic phenomenon characterized by the experience of seeing light without light actually entering the eye. The word phosphene comes from the Greek words phos (light) and phainein (to show).[1] Phosphenes can be directly induced by mechanical, electrical, or magnetic stimulation of the retina or visual cortex as well as by random firing of cells in the visual system."

again, i don't know that your whole story matches up to these possibilities, but you should consider researching through these areas to see if they might really explain some things for you, or at the very least might help you to find a closer match.

the fact that you think have seen these green lights could have a lot to do with the fact that the stories involving them that were described to you had such an obviously powerful affect on your psyche. our minds play tricks on us all the time, as do our senses.

if you are still convinced that this relates to paranormal events and not to a scientific explanation, perhaps you can PM Alder to ask if he wouldn't mind coming into this thread.

i was including this note to close:
* now that i think about it, perhaps Alder would be able to provide some insight here. i think he is more educated in paranormal phenomena than anyone else i've seen during my limited time on these boards. if anyone has a friendly relationship with him, it might be a good idea to invite him to post in this thread.

i did a little digging around, and i found some stories that are somewhat like yours. take a look.

here's an account from a girl who saw a green light that sounds similar to yours. she was also with two friends who saw it as well:

i'm sure you can find more experiences such as these -- and perhaps an explanation? -- by browsing the web.

if you find anything interesting, please post it here! thanks.

Your story was very entertaining even though I know it was not supposed to be. It kept me interested. It is sad to not have an answer for something as amazing as that. I have seen many things but never what you described. My mind is quite open to all possibilities and I could go on and on with them. Do you ever wish you had asked it something?
I was visited by something with a green glow and thought your story would add up with mine. I woke up early for no apparant reason one morning, about 4am. I looked over and saw a hooded figure standing at the edge of my bed and he did not seem to notice me at all. But to this day I think he did not CARE that I saw him because he had control over my body. He was surrounded by green orbs and there was one orb in particular that seemed to be a diamoned shaped-3D and rotating towards me. I tried to get up but found myself paralyzed. As the orb rotated closer to me, I was able to move my toes and then that is when this figure walked towards my bathroom and through the wall.
That was a very frightening experience for me, and I have seen a lot of stuff. But the new stuff is always scary. However that happened two and a half years ago and now for some reason, I know that it was not there to hurt me. But questions remain. The most important ones to me are: What was it doing and Will it ever return?
