Problems with Pinnacle 9 Capture

I am using a firewire to connect my JVC digital camera to my computer's 1394 port. I went into settings and chose the JVC camera from the drop down menu and Pinnacle continues to say it is "trying to initialize a DV or Digital 8 camcorder via a 1394 port."

I am able to capture into Movie Maker with the same setup! (That's why I don't understand Pinnalce's error message) I don't want to use Movie Maker, it doesn't have the features I want. I even went ahead and captured the video asd AVI files through Movie Maker,but Pinnacle will not open these files anyway (like they are finalized clips). I would be fine with capturing though another program if I could open the video files in Pinnacle.
