Window installer box keeps popping up when I open an application. Then it wants me to put in the disc for ms office professional xp. When I do this it starts installing office all over again and I have to cancel at least five times before it goes off the task bar.
How do I get rid of it. It is very annoying. Have tried running several spyware and virus checks and nothing picks it up. Help

does this happen only when you open certain apps or just anything? did you recently install some software or update your Office programs? did you recently, Uninstall something?

Threre 2 things that will probalby help you here. The first thing I would do is run ccleaner, it is a registry cleaner and optimizer, it will find invalid information in your registry and hopefully it will find the (invalid) reference that keeps starting your installer. It is totlally safe and freeware

In answer to your question, the installer starts mostly when I start Internet Exployer, but has popped up unexpectedly when I open other applications.
I have tried CCleaner, ran and it did not get rid of it.
I also ran Avast, still there.
I downloaded from microsoft a fix called safedisc which microsoft said would fix the problem, still there.
The problem started when I installed an external cd/dvd drive and tried to install a game called the Golden Compass. The game would not install, and I had to delete it. I went through remove programs.
Ever since then, I have had the problem.

this should resolve your problems, download MS installer cleanup
install and run the program and then when app is run, go downl the list till you see
Golden Compass and highlight it and then click remove at the bottom, this should get rid of the problem - here is the link and the download is half way down the page
