Trouble with jpeg files

I am running a HP computer witho Windows ME. All jpeg files saved or emailed turn into (Quicktime?). Each picture has a box with the Apple Logo. Computer hangs up (blue screen) and has to be rebooted every time a picture file is attempted to be opened. This happens even if the file is saved with a jpeg extension. Why are these turning to "Apple" and how can I fix the files already saved and prevent that from happening again? I have searched every thing I can think of and can't find an answer. Hopefully someone out there can help. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob

Hi Bob,

It looks like you may have a file association problem. This may have occured when you installed Quicktime and it decided to make itself the default program to open jpegs. Try this for a quick fix:

Locate a file type (in your case a jpeg file) you wish to associate (Windows Explorer works), highlight the file, then hold the SHIFT key while right clicking the file. When the menu appears, select OPEN WITH (it should be at the top). In the 'Open With' window, locate the correct program you want to open the file type with. Check the selection 'Always use this program to open this type of file' and then click 'OK'.
