Please insert disk into drive A
I took my computer apart and put it back together since I installed a cd burner. However I'm having issues with my floppy. At first the light was staying on because I had the cable reversed. I changed the cable and made sure pin1 was aligned with the red stripe. Win2k sees the floppy drive but it will not read any disks and just prompts with the above message. It was working before I took my comp apart. The device manager says it is working properly and the driver is fine.

ANY THOUGHTS? Thanks for the help

    Floppy Drive Issue
    Hi all,
Don't know if you all need this anymore, but just ran across a user who had
This same issue with Win2k. I had tech check the BIOS to make sure the floppy was enable, and it was. I finally went on Microsoft's website where I found that with Win2k you need to download a service pak to resolve the issue.

    Here is the link:

    Good Luck!

A few thoughts, you have both ends of the cable in there right way?

The cable that goes in the floppy has got some twisted wires on the ribbon?

You have not skipped a row of pins - especially on the motherboard connection side as this is hard to spot.

Have you dammaged the cable - did you give it a good tug to remove it?

Some drives if they are connected the wrong way around don't work after you connect your initial error, but just display a red led. Fortunately these drives are in the minority.

And if it is not the drive or cable, you are left with the motherboard!

    How I solved mine
    I had the same issue when I built a PC P4 2.4ghz, 512m, 60g hd about 2 years ago.

The cabling was fine and the red stripe was in the correct direction of the Pin1. XP recognized the floppy but when I put the CMOS to recognize upon boot it said floppy not found.

So I simply powered off and unplugged the PC completely, then removed the CMOS jumper pin from the motherboard, then put it back on (while power still off and unplugged). Then I replugged the power cable and powered on.

Presto! The floppy drive was activated.
