Do you think its wise to actually submit your social security number online when applying for a job?

If you know the company, such as a well know firm, If for example you were going to apply for a city job, or a state job. The sites would use a high security site.

Now if this is some company you never heard of, or some company that just emailed you, of course not.

Yes, for example my social security number is on the web, listed on the Police officers training records, which are restricted to who can get there.
almost eveyrones info is on the major credit card companies,
your credit card info is on 100's of web sites most likely, but all restricted to who can get it.

It is about as safe as giving it to them since it is normally entered into the computer on major commanies anyway.

There is good info on freezing your credit reporting, so no one can access them without a pass code. you can find out info on it at

that way even with it, the bad guys still can't do anything
