Do I need to turn off the computer when it is flashing and thundering while raining to prevent my computer being damaged?

My mum read a news that someone's computer exploded...

if you dont have a surge protector, then yes, and in some cases even when you do....I dont know about it exploding though

It is advisable to turn off and unplug ALL electrical items during a heavy thunder storm.

It's a good idea to turn your computer off and unplug it from the wall or surge protector. Even surge protectors don't always keep your things safe from a lightening strike.

Any time an electrical device takes a lightning hit can cause sparks and start fires. Most may not, but never know.

Any electrical device plugged in or connected is subject to damage..

There are lightning arrestors available for services which help, esp for equipment that cannot be unplugged.
