spybot s&d

i have just recenlt downloaded spybot s&d onto my girlfriens computer but when you load it up and press 'check for problems' the program stops responding. i have tried this many times and still havent had any luck. i have also uninstalled it and installed it again but it doesnt seem 2 work.

system specs.
os -windows xp
processor - intel p4 3.00 ghz
512mb ram
80 gig hd

Try running Spybot: S&D in safe mode. Some bits of spyware now try to detect programs like Spybot: S&D and make them crash/not work etc. to prevent themselves from being removed.

Here are some instructions on getting into safe mode

hey i tried it in safe mode, still to no avail! could it be conflicting with norton or is it just it doesnt want to work on her computer?

I doubt it's Norton. Where did you download Spybot: S&D from? Was it http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ? Also, are there any error messages or does it simply just hang?

i downloaded it from www.download.com. when u click on check 4 problems it hangs. and ive also downloaded it from that link aswell

Try running AD-Aware instead - maybe that will remove somthing that lets spybot work!
