The number 18 in Hebrew ?
I remember this lady once wearing a pendant on a chain around her neck. Someone asked her something about it and she said it was the # 18 in Hebrew... and that the # 18 meant... life.

I never did get the full story, so I'm wondering now what does that mean. Is this just another number or does it have some religious significance in Hebrew. If so, then where in the old testament can it be found?

I kind of wonder sometimes because I know a couple of people born on the 18th of the month.

Anyhoo, if anyone has any knowledge about this at all, I certainly would appreciate it!

    Hi pumpkin!
In hebrew, each latter has a numerical value:
    the first letter= 1
    the sec
    etc.
the tenth letter, "yod" = 10
    the eight one, "heth"= 8
you see, combined together you get the sum 18
the hebrew word for life, or being alive, is "hay" - pronounced like "bye" or like "bay" in "bay leaves"
it's written first "heth"and then "yod". We mostly don't write the vowels in Hebrew, and ' of course, from right to left ( that's the direction of writing in Hebrew) .
it doesn't matter that it's the 8 first, the sum is what counts.
wearing a pendant with this symbol has nothing to do with the Bible, it's a tradition, for example it's like wishing for a long life to the person you give to.
    bye,
    Millie

Is there any connection between the word "life" and this necklace with the "18" ?

Why did the woman say the 18 meant life or long life? Does it?

    alive= hay (in hebrew)
each hebrew letter has a value , is symbol for a number
the 2 hebrew letters used in order to write hay, add up to 18
wearing 18 or the letters hay, stands for long life wishes for the person who wears it.

    This article:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chai_%28symbol%29

Explains it. Its basically as Millie said, it's a combination of 2 Hebrew letters that form the word Chai which means Life. Because the Yod looks more like a punctuation mark its not clear to non Hebrew readers that the symbol comprises 2 letters. As Millie pointed out the two letters are the 8th and 10th letters of the alphabet adding up to 18.

OH I get IT! God Bless me Also! No wonder why I don't see that Symbol much. Perhaps the Star of David more! Wow, Scottgem, those middle eastern religions certainly have it rough! All that energy wasted on disbelief, in the Living bread.

I think I enjoy seeing the character father Saduchee wearing what he wears - with the big giant metal cross draped down to his stomach, against the black priestly robe and the black rimmed hat that he always wears, and the friggin comical accent that comes out of his mouth. It's true. He knows the bread of life & makes $$ at it being really funny.

That lady had an ego problem. Right? No wonder we walked away with the tid bit of info. She didn't look that good ! Hello! Wear a locket of someone u love besides yourself !
OH Yeah, I love Me too!!
Sorry, I walked out on War & Peace. The rest requires money... yeah that about all it comes down to. And I need a lot too, but I am thankful also for what I 've been given. I am extremely grateful to the Lord as He was faithful to me even when I didn't acknowledge Him. Some say it was ignorance , but actually there is another reason. It is called not knowing. Then I ask for forgiveness for my arrogant soul (what can happen when someone considers themselves self - made) Like Burt Lancaster was, I been told. So not taking anyone for granted would be my strongest advice to anyone that cared to know.

I don't blame myself. Ultimately the reality check tells me that I can't change what happened either. So I learned to learn from "their" mistakes. I cried today. Maybe feeling sorry for myself .But I received so many good blessings from my Homies. Thank you, Lord for the vision...

Here's a good one----- Children and Parents - Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. " Honor your father and mother" - which is the first commandment with a promise-- "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth". Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

    From: Ephesians 6:1-4.

Anyway, this is like back to the future!

Quick clarification -- the Hebrew word for live/alive is chai, rhyming with tie, not rhyming with bay.
