Whale up the Thames

Holy mackarel.Take a read of this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4631396.stm

For UK,and International viewers,where appropriate,look at Sky News,as it's live now!!!

Apparently,a second whale has been seen,at Southend-on-sea.

I hope they end up okey.Reminds me of Hitchhiker "so long...and thanks for all the fish"

*By the time you read this,it might not be live on Sky,but was,at the original time of posting.

Whale dies

Sad news guys, the whale has died:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4635874.stm

It died on a rescue barge,at the mouth of the river Thames,at 19:00 GMT,today.

Whilst knowing zero about whales,it seemed to capture the inspiration of a nation, and for those around the world. My five year old son cried tonight.I must admit I went a little misty eyed.

Even CNN have picked up on it,and they seem to be having a whole conference.Too late guys.
What is being said on the BBC,is that they are unsure why this occured, but maybe submarine sonar signals confused it,or it was ill.
Oddily,a dead dolphin was washed up on the shore at Southend-on-sea this morning, and there were rumours of another whale somewhere in the area.Very strange, and all very sad.Apparently the Thames whale developed convultions, before having a heart attack.

Hi,
I watched this, too, on CNN. It's so sad. Apparantely the whale could not survive out of salt water, became too dehydrated.
I wish those who tried rescuing it would have tried sooner, before it got 40 miles or so away from salt water. But, who can tell.
I also wish more people would get involved in the "whaling business", trying to stop these business from killing whales, such as GreenPeace.
CNN had some video of one of their small boats, up against a large whaling vessel, trying to protect a whale at sea. The small boat lost.

Sad to say that it did not make its trip back to the sea and freedom !! They are saying in the papers today that they think the Whale was ill and thats why it was trying to beach itself as they drown when there ill. The sad thing is that this is not the first time things like this have happend, but it is normaly delfines that swim up channels.. They are doing a full ortopsey to find out why the poor Whale didn't make it back to safty.

Fredg - I was sent a video some years ago regards Whale Hunting, It was one of the sickest things i've seen for years. I agree with what you say we have to protect them before like other animals on this earth there no more.
