    Outside rabbit
    Hi,
I keep my rabbit outside where it runs around freely. In the last two days it seems to disappear then reappears the next day only for a short while. I was just wondering could it be burrowing itself somewhere or escaping and coming home. I haven't heard of rabbits going into hibernation. Could anyone help? Thank you

It may be seeking food and shelter elsewhere, I don't think rabbits should be left out in the weather and I've never heard of someone have an "outside" domestic rabbit. I suggest getting it a hut and keeping it in a barn, garage, or at least on the side of the house in a hut for safety, warmth, and protection.

Thanks, it has shelter, a little barn area but have just found out it likes to escape and then comes home. Its very adventurous.

Find out where that rabbit is going! Rabbits are prey animals, yours has been raised as a pet and probably is too trusting. If its going outside your yard, it probably won't be too long until it meets a dog or cat that is better at catching it than it is at getting away.

It is getting out and going into the neighboring houses. I have found where it is getting out and have kept it in the pen until we can secure the area again... thank you for all your help. Much appreciated

There is almost no way to secure a fence for a rabbit, the closet would be to dig down and put a foudation, then run wire fence on the ground around it, and secure the entire area.

For outside rabbits it is better to have a large hutch built above ground with a wire botom and a house inside.

Even the outside pen if it does not have a top and bottom will allow wild outside animals to get into it.
