| they should also be fed unmedicated chick crumbs or duck crumbs for the first 6 weeks of life,
they eat as mentioned insects and veggies and also fruit,
bread bloats them so they get full quickly and do not give them the nutrients they need ...
can i ask how you know the chick inside the egg is alive, is the parent still sitting on the egg...has the parent deserted the egg, are you incubating the egg if it has ....are they your ducks or just strays,
if your parents want to look after the chick if the egg does hatch then they will need a decent sized heat source either a big brooder or a heat lamp , you will need to grind the food up small and preferably have floating food so you can add it to the water so the duck learns to eat on itself from the water...
the heat will need to be around 36 degrees from the day the chick hatches and reduced over a number of weeks until it is at outside tempoerature,
i dont know what the weather is like where you live as i am in the uk but i dont think it will survive outside until it warms up quite a bit if it is cold as it is over here.....
good luck
