Statute of Limitations for Personal Loan

My ex-husband lives in Washington DC and loaned me $1000 three+ years ago. I loaned him $1500 16 years ago and never received one cent back. Now after 3 yrs he is calling me threatening me and wants his $ paid in full. He said if I didnt send him the $1000 he would take me to court. Is there a statute of limitations and if not, am I liable? If I am I will pay him $20 a pay as I am on a very strict budget and filed bankruptcy May 07.

If he can prove it was a loan then you are obligated to pay it back. The statut of limitations on contract is usually 4 years.
