How to start up your own fund raiser?

a thought just ran through my head...
ive been wanting to do something really special for my mum
she had done so much for me and i really want to thank her and repay her
she has always wanted lazer eye surgery she has been
wearing glasses every since she was little
now her eye sight is going down hill and i know this would mean the world to her...
how do i go about starting up a fund raiser to pay for it for her?
or some way to raise the money?
has any one ever done this for anyone before?
your help would be great

Just the obvious - organize a bake sale, or a garage sale with proceeds to go to your cause. You don't say how old you are - can you raise money doing odd jobs for your neighbors and family friends?
