    Hourly And Salary Difference
    I Should be Salary at my Job But my Boss Still Uses Time against me. I need to know how much paid vacation time, holiday time, and sick leave salary workers should get?
    By What I mean "my boss uses time agianst me" is that I am salary According to him(I think so he don't have to pay overtime pay)which tell me fixed rate based on the work that I do(Operate Heavy Equipment). Just the other day he confronted me to let me know that I am hours in the hole and that I owe him hours of working for year 2005.About 140 hours he tells me. No body that I work with believes I have taken that much time from work anyhow and it would be eiaser to saw off my right arm then to get a copy of all the hours I had worked fom them. Well any how to me it seems like I am hourly worker and he don't want to pay overtime. That's why I just wanted an idea what most companies give for time off. My boss is the owner of the company and gives no sick leave, no vacation, and no holiday pay.

    If anybody out there knows of any other companies that won't mess with my pay looking to hire an Equipment operator. Should would be nice to know.

    It depends on the company what you get and do not get. They should have it in writing some where and be able to provide this to you when requested. Salary is basically you work and get a set amount of pay regardless of the amount of time spent, and hourly is paid for the time you work to the minute. Salary or hourly should have no bearing on how much paid vacation, holiday, and sick leave workers should get. Ask for it in writing

    Normally unless you have contract salary employees don't get it all that well, ( at least as well as you thinK)

    First if you have to work 12 hours a day, you have to work it (no extra pay)
    If you have to work Saturday and Sunday, you have to work it (no extra pay)

    Many salary employees work 60 to 80 hours a week, so when you divide the actual hours they work with the pay they get often it is a lot , a whole lot less than many hourly employees.

    Also normally salary people don't get any additional benefits over hourly employees. They will gain the same vacation days, the same sick days. Most company normally give more days after you have been employed longer.

    Like our company we get two week vacation and one week sick each year for the first three years, after three years we get one extra week and after 10 years you will get one more week. Salary or hourly has nothing to do with it. Except that actually salary employees often have a harder time getting to take their vacation. I went two years before I could get one oked, hourly employees just have to notify when they want theirs.

    Thank you for posting a question here at this site, and Welcome to the site.
    You have some good answers so far, and I would like to ask:
    What do you mean by "using time against you"?
    If you mean your boss tells you to work more than you are scheduled, Without pay, then he is taking advantage of you, and is not legal in most states. Since you didn't say what type of job you have, then it's hard to know anything about the salary end of it.
    Salary benefits are up to each company, some have very good salary benefits with time off, 2 or 3 weeks vacations, etc... some not as good.
    To get the most specific answers to your question, can you talk with someone who is "over" your Boss?

    Working hourly sucks if you are not that busy of a company, you have to fight for every minute. If you are salary, you can leave early and miss more time and still get paid for it. Salary people at my company make way more than the hourly people for doing pretty much the same thing
