How do I find a company that will back my invention?

Do you have a patent (provisional or full) yet? I would not seek funding until I have atleast a full market study, working prototype, manufacturing costs and patent protection in place. Otherwise it is just an idea and despite what the commercials during Oprah say- no one will pay you for an idea.
