My Tax Return Was Published With SSN in Court Papers

My tax return, complete with my unredacted SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND SIGNATURE, was attached as an exhibit in a civil filing. My attorney told me that this is a complete violation of federal and state privacy/identity theft laws. What should I do besides a bar complaint? Sue in state or federal court? The opposing attorney has done several things like this in this case.

Is this a civil or criminal case ? Why has your attorney not made a motion to have the personal data excluded ?

JudyKayTee Expert Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: NY State Posts: 18,302	I don't understand why you Attorney would advise that this is against the law and then do nothing - ? If you've been damaged that Attorney is the person to file a lawsuit on your behalf. I have seen this type of info attached to Court papers.
