Store credit refund

I live in Michigan, our state makes all Mi law available online. Though if you do not know exactly what a law is named you will never find it. I have a store credit at a furniture store that I do not wish to use. How long can they hold this before issuing a refund, if at all?

Hello M:

Well, you're not going to find a law that specifically pertains to your problem. This is contract law. How did you come by the store credit?

Most stores issue a credit instead of a refund because they have a no refund policy. If that's the case, they'll NEVER give you a refund.

If, however, your credit is due to a gift certificate, or a down payment on an item that you didn’t complete, or other similar scenario, then yes, you are entitled to a refund.

If that’s the case, and they haven’t given you your refund by now, you’re going to have to sue them.
