Social Security Benefits Exempt ?

My husband and I filed chapt. 13 bankruptcy 6/2007 and just had the " meeting of the creditors", where we met the trustee for our case. At that time it came up, that I had a social security disability case going on. I had told our attorney about the SS thing but I guess he missed it. The trustee said if I should be awarded disability benefits, any of the past due payments would go directly into the chapter 13 plan. Is this true? I was hurt in August of 2004 and if I hadn't been injured or I had been given disability benefits at my 1st request, the bankruptcy wouldn't have been injured. Can they now take that?
