Slander-defamation of character

My ex-husband used information regarding a friend of mine in court paperwork that is being used in a custody case. My ex-husband stated that my friend was convicted of a DWI, that he has 7 pending judgements against him which he does not-3 have been released, also states he has lawsuits against him for theft of services and workers compensation fraud. He was not convicted of a DWI, he has a violation of a DWAI and there are no lawsuits against him that he is aware of and no workers compensation fraud. He also refers to my friend as felonious person.

Can my friend sue him for slander-defamation of character?

Please advise-thank you
