Do I have a case for Slander?

I owned a business that my mother personally loaned me the money for. I only had it open 3 weeks and business still wasn't quite there yet as I was so new. But she felt that since she loaned me the money she could control me. To make a long story short, after several heated fights and much stress we went to our own attorneys and essesntially I sold the business to her and cut all ties with her. (My brother and his girlfriend moved to the area to help her run the business.) In the bill of sale I specifally asked my attorney to add a clause stating that they were not to contact me in any form and there was a part in there that anything after the sale and agreement, that they could not come after me for suit or blame. Both parties were to walk away neutral. Well since then, my mother, brother and his girlfriend have done nothing but bad mouth, telling customers I was a liar and a thief, that I have mental issues, that I cheat on my husband and don't love him, I am not a professional, I was running the business in the ground, all which is untrue! The way I heard this was because I never slandered the business but sent in friends so that they could keep enjoying the services offered. My brothers girlfriend as since posted several, and I mean several slanderous comments on her web page. Contacted my friends and emailed them horrible emails about me. There is not one truth to what she is saying. She keeps posting that this is all freedom of speech. We had to change our phone numbers because they kept calling and harrassing us, hanging up, saying prank things, all from the business phone number! ( I have my phone records!) This is out of control, affecting my new business as well as my husbands business. He is a consultant and she even emailed his employees about me! So my question is, do I have a leg to stand on? Is this libel? Slander? Defimation? Breech of Contract? Emotional stress and harm? Cyber bullying? What do I do! I appreciate you response!

Certainly sounds like you have a case. Talk to an attorney.

progunr agrees: Absolutely! Start getting copies of anything that was in writing and talk to an attorney.
