Are you a breeder? I'm hoping that all of your animals are registered with the city. That's alot of dogs in one place.

I wasn't aware that you could obtain insurance in case your dog bites someone. If you are worried about one of your dogs biting someone then they shouldn't be around people.

JudyKayTee agrees: I also wondered about the breeding aspect -

You have to have at least one, and find a insurance company that will insure them. The more you have the harder it will be to get insurance,

Also many will want to know as already asked if you are a breeder since six is more than most would have.

You don't HAVE to have insurance because you own any type of dog.

I investigate dog bites all the time - you could lose everything over one bite if you don't have insurance BUT because they are a banned breed in many areas and uninsurable in others, it is very difficult to find a carrier that will insure them.

My suggestion is that you call an insurance AGENT, not a COMPANY, see if they will write a homeowners/renters policy with pits and see what the premium is.

And with that many - particularly if you breed - you are doomed if they bite.

You don't insure them - you get homeowners or renters insurance which insures YOU against claims/loss. If you can.

It does occur to me that the OP may be asking about city-specific laws. There are some places that say you can have pit bulls, but you need to have X amount of insurance in case they bite someone. In which case, the answer is generally "one dog", since that kind of legislation is aimed at keeping the numbers low.

In my area you MUST have a kennel license and insurance if you have over three dogs - but I don't know that anyone ever checks. It's another one of those laws that's on the books, unfortunately, but not enforced.

I'll throw in the legal advice here, too - if you are the landlord and a tenant's dog bites and there are vicious propensities, you can be held responsible.
